Hendersonville Community Pinewood Derby Rules

Stock Class:

  1. Total width of the car shall be no larger than 2-3/4 inches.
  2. Length shall not exceed 7 inches. Height shall not exceed 5 inches.
  3. Weight shall not exceed 5 ounces. The car may be hollowed out and built up to the maximum weight by the addition of wood or metal that is securely fastened to the car body.
  4. The wheel base (distance from front axle to the rear axle) may not be altered. The cut slots must be used for the axles and the wheel base distance must be 4-1/4 to 4 3/8 inches.
  5. Wheel bearings, washers & bushings are not allowed.
  6. NO ALTERING of WHEELS, No polishing or sanding of contact surface is allowed.
  7. All 4 wheels must make contact with the track.
  8. Axles may be altered to remove burrs and polishing.
  9. Springs for suspension are not allowed.
  10. Width at axles shall not be altered from 1-3/4 inches.
  11. The car must be freewheeling. No powering of wheels and NO fast start devices.
  12. Front end of car can be round, square or pointed in the middle. No V or U cuts.
  13. Liquid lubricants are prohibited
  14. Graphite or other powdered lubricants can be applied to inside of wheels only once at inspection time.

Super Class:

AT CAR IMPOUND PRIOR TO RACE AND DURING RACE:

  1. Each car must pass inspection by the pinewood derby committee prior to racing.
  2. Cars must be registered on time and must be registered with the participant present.
  3. After passing inspection, the car will be impounded until racing is completed.
  4. After passing inspection, the only persons authorized to handle the cars are members of the race staff. Anyone handling their car after impounding will result in a complete reinspection of their car.
  5. Repair time for loose wheel, etc. is 2 minutes. One repair allowed per car.
  6. Should cars be interfered with during a race due to their car, another car or track malfunction, a re-run of that heat will be at the discretion of the race staff.
  7. Cars will be raced according to division and will race once in each lane. All times and MPH will be averaged to produce and order of finish.
  8. Top 2 winners from each division will race in the Grand Finale.
  9. First, Second and Third will be awarded for each division and then the Grand Finale.

 

Hendersonville Community 2 ltr Bottle Rocket Rules

Materials

  1. two-liter plastic soda bottles
  2. tape or glue
  3. paper or plastic sheet material such as cardboard, Styrofoam, thin plastic sheet, etc.
  4. twine, string, thread or ribbon (for parachute lines)

Construction Rules

  1. Rockets must be built by the participants using only the above listed materials.
  2. Only one two-liter bottle may be filled with water and pressurized. The pressurized bottle itself must not be modified structurally. Additions to the bottle (such as fins, nose cone, etc.) may be attached using ONLY tape.
  3. The mouth of the pressurized bottle must fit over a half-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe.
  4. Additional two-liter bottles may be cut and added to the pressurized bottle using only tape.
  5. Fins must not interfere with the mouth of the pressurized bottle so that it can fit on the launcher.
  6. Testing indicates that leaving a two-inch gap from the bottom of the fins to the plastic ring at the bottom of the mouth is enough distance to prevent interference.
